The Black Hills Gold jewelry can only come from the Black Hills of South Dakota and be designed in the traditional tricolor grapevine design. It is all manufactured in the Black Hills. It is hand crafted and each piece has a unique design.

Back in the late 1800’s the gold rush came to the Black Hills of South Dakota. A man named Henri Lebeau is given credit for what has come to be known as Black Hills Gold Jewelry in 1876. There are several stories as to how the jewelry came to be created in such a unique design. Some say the design actually came from California and was brought East. Lebeau brought it from Montana to the Black Hills in 1876. Others say that Lebeau came to make his fortune and got lost in the Black Hills of South Dakota. He almost starved to death, when he found and ate some wild grapes. Upon getting back to civilization, he used this grape leaf and cluster design to create his jewelry. However the story the result is the same. The unique design that has come to be known as Black Hills Gold Jewelry. Each piece is hand designed and has the tricolor design with the grape leaves and clusters. Later the government mandated that the unique jewelry could only be manufactured in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
